No core, no revised K04 parts…this is a performance turbocharger from the ground up. Attached to this center section is a compressor and turbine wheel combo that is a little unconventional. Compared to a traditional 12 blade turbine wheel, the CorkSport design is lighter weight for faster spool times and less blades for higher maximum flow capacity. The wheels are wrapped in new housings. On the compressor side there is an OEM diameter inlet to simplify the installing with any intake system you had setup with your K The turbine housing maintains the stock flange design for easy fitment with any exhaust manifold and downpipe that bolted to the K Great question!

Also how are the seals on these turbos in comparison to the ko4? Currently I am burning oil and see lots of oil in my hot ic piping. The OEM k04 seals start to fail pretty quickly after you start pushing high levels of boost.

This turbo is meant to handle quite a bit more a long time. Keep in mind that it varies depending on how hard you push the turbo etc. Is there any mods outside of hpfp that are needed to run this turbo reliably? You need a hpfp and the accessport to the tune car.

I'm a fan of the lightweight aspect but didn't saw it wasn't an option.Let me take you to an extraordinarily dull time in my life, the last time I started my car when it was still stock. September 14th, was a beautiful September day in Washington.

I started my car at am, just like every other weekday. The car burbled to life, but it was relatively quiet, flat, and a bit uninteresting. Once I arrived at work and spread some Friday cheer, I settled in. Almost immediately, I could feel the pile of parts in the corner behind my desk, glaring at the back of my head. We started with thorough degreasing of the engine bay and setting up the essential supplies- because what is an install day without beer and snacks!

Once the car has cooled down, I started with taking out the battery box, intake, and intercooler; and then the fun really started. We all know about the Mazdaspeed downpipe on our cars. The devil engineered the placement of this thing, and he had his minions tighten the bolts. We got the first one out with little to no issue, but it just got progressively harder from there. It was only a matter of time before rounding off the edges of that last bolt.

Thankfully Brett has an extractor tool that we hammered on there, and with the small act of god, it was successfully extracted.

What an experience! I would even call this life-changing for me. Thankfully for me, I have a fantastic career within CorkSport and have a great friend that helped me make my dreams come true.
